Montreal, QC – Negotiators reached a tentative agreement in the early hours of 29 January 2020. IAM Local Lodge 2301 and Swissport finally achieved the agreement after almost one month on strike. Members will vote on the tentative agreement at a ratification meeting on Thursday, 30 January

“Our members need to know the details during the ratification meeting to be held on 30 January before being shared with media or the general public. I think we owe them that,” said Peter Tsoukalas, IAM District 140 General Chair.

Michel Richer, Grand Lodge Representative with the IAM in Canada, said, “This is only one of the battles we’ve fought during the strike. The strike was caused by the despicable practice of contract-flipping and continued on for as long as it did because there is no legislation preventing scabs from doing our members’ jobs. We await action from our political representatives on these two fronts.”

Workers at Swissport Canada Inc., members of IAM Local 2301, are aircraft supply workers, dispatchers, fuel storage maintenance workers and mechanics. Their collective agreement expired in August 2019 and they have been trying to reach an agreement with their employer since 23 May, 2019.
