For Immediate Release

Toronto, ON – Members of IAM Local Lodge 2413 have ratified their first collective agreement with Sunwing and it sets the standard for the industry.

“We went into these negotiations knowing Sunwing has had a high attrition rate for Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers for the past decade,” explained IAM Transportation District Lodge 140 General Chairperson Dave Freeman. “We told the company if you want to retain your people you’re going to have to pay them more and they got the message.”

The five-year agreement provides wage increases of 8 per cent in the first year retroactive to August 8, 2018, 4 per cent in the second year, 2.5 per cent in the third year, and two percent in year four and five respectively. Other agreement highlights include:

  • Vacation pay on overtime hours retroactive to the date of hire
  • Specialty Qualification Premiums for Borescope, high power run ups of aircraft and taxiing of aircraft
  • Airside D license premium
  • Comprehensive Benefits package
  • Benefits ‘me too’ clause – benefits will increase with industry
  • Boot allowance of $200.00 per year
  • Dry cleaning allowance of $200.00 per year

“I want to congratulate the bargaining committee for a job well done, they have provided a foundation that this membership can build on for years to come,” said Freeman. The sixty AME’s ratified the agreement by a 100 per cent margin.

IAM Canadian GVP Stan Pickthall was likewise very pleased. “This is a great contract settlement and sets a standard for other non-union air transport providers across the country.”

The IAM is the largest union in Canada’s air transport sector.
